I switched back to Mavericks, and now the Video Capture device works perfectly again. They suggested going back to Yosemite OS or Mavericks. In communicating with Elgato technical support, and after they remotely analyzed my Video Capture device plugged into my Macbook Pro, they told me that El Capitan changes the USB configuration and interferes with their device. The picture would often freeze during recording etc. Audio was either over-recorded to distortion levels, or missing entirely. Then I upgraded my OS to El Capitan, and everything went haywire.
